The S460 is a member of the 4000 series of Surrette deep cycle batteries and are recommended for medium sized "photovoltaic systems" or "solar electric systems". Their lead plates are heavier than golf cart batteries which gives them a much longer useful life while keeping their construction costs reasonable.
If taken care of properly, the 4000 series Surrette batteries should last 8-10 years. They carry a seven year warranty. 24 month full and the next 60 months pro-rated. However, we have never had a Surrette battery warranty returned in the last 15 years! Although these are six volt batteries, they can be used in any voltage solar electric system. Multiples of 2 for 12 volt systems, multiples of 4 for 24 volt systems, and multiples of 8 for 48 volt systems.

The S460 is rated at 460 amp hours at the 100 hour rate and 350 amp hours at the 20 hour rate. It measeures 12.3" x 7.125" x 16.75" and weighs in at 117 pounds.
How does the amp hour rating work? Well, the hour rate means the rate of discharge. If you discharge an S460 over a period of 20 hours, you will get approximately 350 amp hours out of it. If you discharge it over a period of 100 hours, you'll get 460 amp hours out of it. The slower the discharge, the more power you'll get out of a battery and this is true of all deep cycle batteries.
